Every year at the beginning of July Marlborough hosts the Jazz Festival followed
by the famous Marlborough College Summer School so a stay at Mayfield during this
time is perfection! There are many good restaurants in Marlborough and in the surrounding
countryside. Our local Pub in Wilton, The Swan , is just a 3 minute drive away, and
serves delicious meals in a perfect English country village setting. We are on the
edge of the Savernake Forest, the largest privately owned forest in England, which
is truly beautiful for walks at all times of the year.

There are so many local sites to visit but among the best are the Wilton Windmill
which is one of the few working windmills left in England, The Crofton Beam Engines
, the Kennet and Avon Canal, where you can watch the longboats negotiating the locks.
The Canal passes through Hungerford too and here you can catch a trip on one of
the barges. Hungerford is renowned for its wonderful antique shops. I think my favourite
place is Avebury, with its mystical stones, beautiful church and elegant Manor house
and it is in this area that one is most likely to see a crop circle. Above all,
one cannot stay in this area without a visit to the mysteries of Stonehenge
